Where to Surf?

Rockpiles

Waikiki

Rockpiles is a relatively mellow wave with a chill crowd on average days. Mild paddle out, slight shoulder burner. Breaks both left and right and can be fun on a shortboard or longboard on any given day. Has an inside section that is great for beginner or even first time surfers. It is a reef break and can get extremely shallow especially on low tide. Booties are reccommended for beginner surfers, but all level surfers should be aware and always fall flat. Get away from the crowds of Waikiki Beach without having to leave town and still have a great view of Diamond Head. Free parking right at the beach!

Ala Moana Bowls

Waikiki

Sometimes referred to as the Pipeline of the South Shore, Ala Moana Bowls is the most high performance and coveted wave in town. Advanced to expert level surfers only. Localism is heavy here, so the utmost respect is required to surf. A fast, steep, and heavy wave on big days with multiple bowl sections. Small days are more mellow and longboard friendly, but still a relatively fast break. Shallow reef. If in doubt, don't go out. There are plenty of friendlier waves and crowds near Waikiki that can be just as fun! You can shoot great photos of surfers on big days just across the channel at Magic Island.

Canoes

Waikiki

The classic Waikiki surfing experience! Very beginner friendly wave with little to no reef to worry about. Mostly sandy bottom, especially on the inside. Pristine waters and dreamy waves with an easy paddle out. However, this spot is notoriously crowded due to its beginner friendly nature and its proximity to the most dense area of Waikiki. Perfect spot if it is your first time surfing and even better to bring out the kids and push into waves. It doesn't get much friendlier than this. Arguably the best place to learn to surf in the world! A truly iconic spot. Named Canoes because of the 4 man canoes that also surf the break!

Waikiki

Arguably one of the best places to surf (and learn to surf!) in the world. With a wide variety of surf spots concentrated in such a small area, any type of surfer from the seasoned pro to the first-timer can find a perfect wave within walking distance from one of the many nearby hotels. Waves are best on the South Shore in summer months, but you can surf here year-round. The staff at our location will break down all of the surf spots for you and find the one that suits you the best. Each wave has it's own nuances and we won't send you out there blind! For the most part, be prepared to surf over reef and among moderate-heavy crowds. However, the water is warm, the vibe is generally friendly, and the whole experience is very inviting. Get the right information, be respectful in the water, and you are guaranteed to have an excellent time!

Ala Moana Beach Park

Honolulu, Hawaii

Ala Moana Beach Park is just west of Waikiki. A stones throw from the surf breaks in Waikiki but a huge drop in the crowd numbers due to the lack of hotels in the area. There are waves suitable for all levels of surfers throughout the park. It's a nice alternative for those looking to avoid crowds or just surf something besides the waves in Waikiki. Ample parking is avaliable at Magic Island or Kewalo Basin. Our staff will assist you in finding the perfect wave for you!

Diamond Head

Honolulu, Hawaii

Diamond Head is just east of Waikiki. A breath of fresh air from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. Surf with the Diamond Head cliffs and mountain ranges as a backdrop rather than hotels and sky scrapers. A south-east facing break that catches more swells than Waikiki, but also more wind. Usually early in the morning is best for conditions, but be sure to check the wind speed and direction before heading over there. Roadside parking can be found near the spot.

North Shore

The Proving Grounds

The '7 Mile Miracle' is home to the world's most premier surfing. Many people flock to O'ahu in the winter to spectate the competitions or just to enjoy viewing the raw power of mother nature. We strongly recommend to avoid surfing here throughout the winter months. It is reserved for only the highest level surfers in the world and is extremely dangerous if you are not a seasoned waterman. If you are considering a North Shore surf trip, consult with our staff to find the best beach and conditions, as well as getting some local knowledge.
